Shaha Paribar founder Sri Ganesh Chandra Shaha
Over 75 years of our heritage, culture and the inspiration of our founder have allowed us to build things that we are proud of, and contribute to India’s growth and development. We are strengthened by our moral and ethical values, and we continue to work together to build a brighter future for everyone connected with us including our employees and our customers.

Our Journey

We had a humble beginning on the banks of the river Meghna in Chandpur district (now in Bangladesh) when our first biri factory was inaugurated by our founder Sri Ganesh Chandra Shaha. It was about a decade before India’s independence, and he was still a young man with a visionary mind and a great purpose of enriching people’s lives.
At that time, the unemployment rate was quite high in Chandpur. He noticed that the biri industry requires a large number of workers, and there was significant demand for tobacco products in that region. Chandpur also had river ports, making it an ideal location for business. So he decided to open a small biri factory there in order to employ as many people as possible and solve the local unemployment crisis.
In a short period of time, with his encouraging leadership, the business started growing quickly. As the products were being well-accepted by the consumers, he decided to expand. He first went to Silchar and subsequently to Tripura, where he established further factories and depots.
The trademark of Meghana was registered in 1944, although Meghana biri had already been popularised among biri lovers in Assam, Tripura and Bengal by that time.
After Assam and Tripura, he returned to Bengal and established a factory in Aurangabad in the Murshidabad district, before further expanding to the west. Our first factory in Odisha was in Jharsuguda, followed by Sambalpur. Following Odisha, he expanded into Chhattisgarh, and then to Chakradharpur in Jharkhand.
Today Meghana has grown to become the no. 1 biri manufacturer brand in eastern India. As a company, we operate in fourteen states, with over 12 manufacturing units, more than 36 branches, depots, publicity offices, and over 1 lakh retail outlets. However, we are always committed to upholding our strong ethics and integrity, which have always been our core values, and we are continuing the legacy till today.
